HEE Funding for IP courses in 2023/24

Health Education England (HEE) has announced a further year of funding for independent prescribing courses, supporting pharmacists across various healthcare settings. The ability to prescribe independently is essential for pharmacists who provide care in the NHS. This training enables pharmacists to support patients from diagnosis to prescribing, offer advice and follow-up, and prepare for new challenges.

Utilising the clinical skills and capabilities of community pharmacists is part of a joint effort to improve access to care in local communities and address health inequalities. With significant investment in training, eligible pharmacists will have access to almost 3,000 places on independent prescribing courses at several universities across England.

The courses will be available between April 2023 and March 2024, with multiple intake dates available at various universities. Interested pharmacists can apply to universities listed on the HEE website. Eligibility criteria include the support of a designated prescribing practitioner (DPP), an appropriate practice-based learning environment in a prescribing setting, and meeting the course provider’s eligibility criteria.
